RoverLand for LandRovers

The Series Land Rover is the “proverbial” Land Rover.  It’s the Land Rover people strongly associate with films shot in Africa (and other countries of course), with the car, normally well laden, traversing desert or swamp in extreme conditions.  It’s the image in people’s minds of a tough go anywhere 4x4 vehicle.

Iconic Land Rover series 2a stationwagon. This particular example served time in the Austrian fire service. With regular maintenance and little use it remains in an unblemished condition.

Beautiful and rare 1961 Land Rover Series 2A 109 stationwagon - Ex Austrian fire service.  This particularily original example had only 20 thousand kilometres on the speedo.

Land Rover stage 1 V8 stationwagon. Some say that these were the ultimate series Land Rover. In reality they were a test bed for the forthcoming 90 and 110 range to be followed by the iconic Defenders.

1980 LHD LAND ROVER V8 STAGE ONE STATIONWAGON SERIES 3.  The stage 1 V8 used the Rover V8 3500 cc engine, first used in the Rover P5B in 1966 to replace the less powerful Rover straight six lump.  It was derived from a Buick 4.6 liter engine of which the rights to build were obtained by Rover Cars in the 1960s.  Buick sold the engine as it no longer fitted in with their larger engined cars as it was felt that the 4.6 litre V8 was too small.  Rover had great suucess with this alloy small block V8 engine producing it in various guises through until 2004.

1974 Land Rover series 3 109 2.25 litre diesel with overdrive.

1974 Land Rover series 3 109 2.25 litre diesel with overdrive.  This particular example was adapted to take power steering.  Everything on a Land Rover is possible with a bit of common sense.

1974 Land Rover Series 3 109 safari stationwagon with roofrack, sidesteps and bullbar - This example was a fabulously original ex utility service Land Rover.  It had the super smooth 6 cylinder 2625cc engine with overdrive.

1981 Land Rover Stage 1 V8 safari stationwagon.

1981 Land Rover Stage 1 V8 safari stationwagon - Apart from the obvious split screen, the resemblance of the stage 1 V8 to the later 90, 110 & Defender is quite pronounced.  The stage 1 V8 still used leaf spring suspension, as did all the series Land Rovers.  Unlike the regular series Land Rover the stage 1 V8 was fitted with permanent four wheel drive, with high and low ratios.
