Land Rover Series 1948 - 1984

The Land Rover Series is the “proverbial” Land Rover.  Introduced in 1948 the Series Land Rover underwent numerous modifications over the years, through to 1984 when production of the Series Land Rovers finally ceased.  Famous for its durability and ability to be fixed up or repaired by someone with just a basic knowledge of mechanics and common sense, together with a fantastic parts back up, the leaf sprung Land Rover series had and still has ardent followers around the world.  The proverbial leaf sprung Land Rover Series was offered for sale in short wheel base and long wheel base versions, latterly the popular 88” and the 109”.   Below are a few pictures and information of some of the series Land Rovers which I’ve owned over the years.

1954 Land Rover Series 1 with hardtop and side windows - Like so many Land Rovers, someone has attempted the restoration then due to either financial or other reasons (normally lack of time), the project is unfortunately never completed.

1974 Land Rover Series 3 109 safari stationwagon with a load of accessories - Still retaining it’s original Series looks, this 6 cylinder example was later fitted with a Rover V8 3528cc engine, although this was a tight squeeze in the original engine compartment.

1974 Land Rover Series 3 88 with hardtop and non standard side windows.  This model was not a stationwagon.  The statiowagon was identified by the alpine windows and heatshield on the roof, plus seats in the front and rear.

1976 Land Rover Series 3 109 stationwagon.

1976 Land Rover Series 3 109 stationwagon.  Although tatty, the interior of this ex fire service Land Rover is very original.  Most of the ex fire service Land Rovers were extremely well maintained and normally always had very low mileage.
